You Little Devil’s Food Cupcakes

Make your little devil something special this Halloween! This adorable cupcake not only looks great, it tastes even better -- and kids will love that they can help put the finishing touches on it before wolfing it down. Make it on its own or as part of our Haunted House of Halloween Cupcakes.

Ingredients

  • 1 box devil’s food cake mix
  • 1 package 2 1/2" foil baking cups
  • 1 can vanilla icing
  • 1 small tube red food coloring
  • 1 package black licorice pieces
  • 1 package caramel apple (red) candy corns
  • 1 package mini M&Ms

Cooking Instructions

  1. Prepare devil’s food cake batter according to box directions.
  2. Remove white paper separators from foil cups; pour batter into foil baking cups and bake in 350-degree F oven for 17 to 20 minutes, or until you can stick a toothpick into the center and remove it cleanly.
  3. Remove cupcakes from oven and let cool completely.
  4. In a small bowl, add 5 or more drops of food coloring to icing and mix until desired shade of red is achieved. Top cupcakes with colored icing.
  5. To assemble cupcakes: Use a knife to make two small diagonal slits at the top of cupcake and one at the bottom. Insert candy corn "devil's horns" into slits. Add red M&Ms to make eyes. Cut black licorice pieces into smaller strips to make the "unibrow" and mouth.

Substitution(s)

Use red velvet cake mix instead of devil’s food mix to make cupcakes.
