Ingredients

  • 1-10.75 ounce purchased, or 8-inch-by-5-inch homemade, loaf cake
  • Flower and butterfly-shaped sugar cookies, homemade* or purchased
  • 6-inch lollipop sticks
  • 1 can purchased vanilla frosting
  • Gel or liquid food coloring
  • Assorted cake decorations
  • 2 feet ribbon

Cooking Instructions

  1. Level the top of the loaf cake. On cooling rack placed over sided cookie sheet turn cake upside-down.
  2. Remove 1 cup of the frosting and reserve. In a microwave, heat remaining frosting 40 seconds. Add color, stir to combine. Pour over upside-down cake and smooth icing. Let dry completely.
  3. Make and cut out sugar cookies. Carefully place about 1-inch of a lollipop stick through the middle of each cookie at its base: bake and let cool completely. Decorate with reserved icing and decorations as desired. Let dry completely.
  4. Stick decorated cookies in flower box. Pipe a fine line of icing along one long edge of the ribbon. Adhere ribbon to the top of the flower box. Make and adhere bow to front of flower box with icing, if desired.

Tips & Tricks

  • *If making your own sugar cookies, they should be rolled to a ⅜-inch thickness

  • Use tweezers for easier placing of small decorations

  • Place decorations on cookie while icing is still wet

  • If not placing decorations on cookies while wet, use icing to adhere
  • It's always a good idea to have extra icing on hand

  • If you're in a pinch for more icing, just mix a little water or milk with confectioners' sugar
  • If using purchased cookies, adhere lollipop stick to cookie with icing

  • Butterfly antennas were made from 2-inch pieces of twist ties, folded in half and adhered with icing
