There’s nothing simpler than decorating with candy. You make anything from simple to complex designs. Also, with the abundance of choices, decorating cookies with candy can be a great family activity. Let your imagination run wild.
If decorating with a candy after baking is the only way to go, then they can be glued onto the cookie with:
- Melted chocolate
- Icing or Frosting
- A mix of lots of confectioner’s sugar and a little water or milk
- Jam or Jelly
Tips:
- Some candies will crack during baking. The best way to decide if that look is okay with you is to bake off a few and see how it looks.
- For a cleaner look, you may want to make indentations in the raw cookie dough where the candy will be placed after baking. That way, the chances of the glue being seen is lessened
- Some candies will melt during baking. Sometimes the results are fine. Other times, they burn, and taste nasty. Again, the only sure-fire way to know if a particular candy works is to make a test run with them. Bake off some cookies and decide if the final result works for you.
- Gumdrops are fun to play with. They can be molded and rolled into just about any shape.
