Caramel Popcorn Balls

This simple, tasty recipe transforms fresh popped corn into yummy caramelized confections that are delicious to snack on and perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 (15-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk (2/3 cup)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 5 quarts popped corn (popcorn)
  • large bowl (to hold popcorn)

  • measuring spoons

Cooking Instructions

  1. In saucepan, combine butter or margarine, brown sugar, and corn syrup.
  2. Stir well and bring to boiling over medium heat.
  3. Stir in sweetened condensed milk; simmer, stirring constantly, till mixture reaches 234  to 238 degrees F, or when the mixture forms a soft ball when dropped into cold water.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
  5. Pour over popped corn and stir well till all kernels are coated.
  6. Butter hands lightly; shape popcorn into balls about 3-1/2 inches in diameter.
Servings: About 15 balls
